Introduction:
Beef nihari is a traditional dish of Pakistan and North India. It has also been eaten since the 18th century. The name “Nihari” comes from the Arabic word “Nahar,” which means “morning,” as it was traditionally eaten for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. it has a high-energy content. beef provides protein, iron, and other nutrients. Bone marrow is present in the dish which is a good source of vitamins and minerals. and spices have their benefits like cinnamon may help regulate blood sugar, cardamom may aid digestion. Cloves have antioxidant properties. In short, we can say that nihari is a delicious but also healthy dish.
Ingredients:
- 1-kilogram Beef ( with bones and marrow)
- 2 medium sized onion (Thinly sliced)
- 1 tablespoon ginger paste
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon Cardamom (green and black)
- 8-10 Cloves
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoons Coriander seeds
- 8-10 Long pepper (pipli)
- 2 tablespoons Wheat Flour (For thickening)
- 3 tablespoons Oil/Ghee (For cooking)
- 2 tablespoons Yogurt
- Fresh ginger (julienned)
- 6-8 Green chilies
- coriander leaves
- Lemon wedges
- water as need
- salt (according to taste)
Instructions:
Step NO 01:

Making nihari masala. first, when making your nihari masala, take a pan and add whole spices like one teaspoon of cinnamon, one teaspoon of cardamom (green and black), eight to ten cloves, one teaspoon of cumin seeds, one teaspoon of coriander seeds, and eight to ten long pepper (pipli), for dry roast until aromatic then grind the roasted whole spices into a fine powder and take aside we will use later in our recipe.
Step NO 02:

Cooking the meat. firstly, in a heavy-bottomed pot pour the three tablespoons of Oil/Ghee add the thinly sliced two medium-sized onions, and saute over medium-low heat until they turn into golden brown color. now, add one kilogram of Beef ( with bones and marrow) and cook for ten to fifteen minutes unless brown on all sides to enhance the meat’s flavor. furthermore, add one tablespoon of ginger paste and one tablespoon of garlic paste and cook for five minutes at this stage add your homemade nihari masala and cook for five minutes, stirring constantly. your beet is ready to simmer and turn into an aromatic delicious dish.
Step NO 03:

Making nihari. Pour the water as you desired in the same pot and cover it completely and do a high flame to bring the mixture to a boil, once boil comes in the mixture reduce the flame high to low simmer and cook for at least three to four hours unless beef is very tender and juicy.
Take another bowl add two tablespoons of Wheat Flour with cold water to make a smooth slurry and gradually pour the slurry into the beet pot and stirring continuously. Then add two tablespoons of Yogurt and some amount of salt about your taste and simmer for another fifteen to twenty minutes unless the gravy has thickened to your desired consistency. You can adjust nihari masala and spices about your taste. Now your traditional style nihari is ready to eat.
Step NO 04:

Serve. Garnish your delicious traditional nihari with fresh ginger (julienned), green chilies, coriander leaves, and lemon wedges and serve your tasty traditional nihari in traditional style with naan or lacha paratha in breakfast to your family.
